Treatment

    Tetanus is something that is easy to prevent, however it could happen and people should know how the treatment process of Tetanus works. Treatment is usually effective, but the earlier the disease is treated, the better chance there is for survival. Treatments usually involve the following :
 
  • Cleaning wounds to get rid of any colonies of Clostridium tetani, as this is the bacterium that causes the disease.
  • Sedatives can be used to control the body and ease muscle spasms caused by the disease.
  • Medicines, like antibiotics, can prevent the spread of bacteria throughout the body.
  • If in the case of a severe stage of the disease, depressants and steroids can be used to control muscular activity outside the reach of regular sedative 
  • Disposing of the dead tissue in which the Bacteria reproduce is an effective tactic. Maggots are usually implemented to eat away at the tissue.
  • Painkillers are sometimes utilized to numb the pain induced by spasms.
  • Often times because of the victim's incapacity to move freely, food and medicine can be administered in liquid form.
  • Surgery is sometimes implemented in order to repair the damage caused by the rapid muscular activity involved,  such as bone fractures, or spinal injuries.
  • The best treatment of tetanus however is to get shots within 24 hours after possible infection.
